About HaulLookup

HaulLookup is a free directory for looking up publicly available FMCSA data about trucking carriers and brokers. Search a company by name, USDOT number, or MC number and see its safety rating, operating authority, insurance and bond status, and inspection history — all sourced from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's own public records, presented in a form that's actually easy to read.

Why We Exist

The information HaulLookup shows has always been technically public, but that's not the same as accessible. FMCSA's own systems are built for regulatory and enforcement use, not for a dispatcher checking a new carrier before dispatching a load, or a small carrier verifying a broker before hauling for them on trust. That gap matters more than it used to: double-brokering, carrier identity theft, and brokers who keep booking freight while insolvent all depend on the other side not checking. A lookup that takes ten seconds instead of ten minutes is the difference between checking and not bothering.

How the Data Works

Every carrier and broker profile is built from FMCSA's own public systems — the Company Census File and the QCMobile API — synced on a recurring daily schedule so records don't drift far from what FMCSA actually has on file. We don't independently verify, edit, or supplement that data with our own judgment about a company; we display what FMCSA reports, as faithfully as we can, including when it shows a lapsed authority or a poor safety record. If a number here looks wrong, the more likely explanation is that FMCSA's own record needs updating (usually via a carrier's next MCS-150 filing), not that our sync missed something — though if you do spot a real discrepancy, we'd like to hear about it.

How We're Funded

The directory, lookup tool, and calculators are free with no account required, and always will be. We support that with a separate, optional tool: if you tell us you're looking for factoring, insurance, or ELD/compliance help, we pass that request to a partner who provides it, and may earn a referral fee for the introduction. We don't provide any of those services ourselves, and using the directory or lookup tool never requires touching that form. The full mechanics — and exactly what that financial relationship does and doesn't affect — are in our Affiliate Disclosure.

Independent, Not Affiliated with FMCSA

HaulLookup is an independent, privately operated site. We are not FMCSA, the U.S. Department of Transportation, or any other government agency, and we're not officially affiliated with or endorsed by any of them. We're a third party republishing public government data in a more usable form — the same data anyone can pull directly from FMCSA's own systems, just organized around the questions people actually ask before booking a load or hiring a carrier.
